My LA Story

I think I’ve been in Los Angeles long enough to call myself a true Angeleno – but that doesn’t make it any less fun to go around the city and enjoy the sights through the lens of a tourist. My good friend Clare recently visited from London and recruited me as her guide – I wanted to show her some of LA’s most notorious spots – but also some of the secret hidden gems too. The one thing I’ve learned about LA after 6 years living here, is there’s a lot more to this city than meets the eye!

We started with breakfast in bed at the Sofitel Hotel in Beverly Hills – with a view of the sun coming up over the famous Hollywood Hills out the window, freshly squeezed OJ and an egg-white omelette (so LA right?!) we were fueled up and ready to go.

A quick drive down the road brought us to the LACMA museum for a day of art and photos between the iconic cast-iron lamps. The Urban Lights exhibit is such a beautiful experience (and even more gorgeous at night), you’ll have seen it in a million movies and TV shows, usually for a romantic moment! I wore a fab floor length floral dress and fun suede fringe jacket with unexpectedly comfortable heeled sandals— great for walking around museums all afternoon.

Next up: The Grove. It’s an outdoor mall, but pretty much the happiest place on earth (yup, like a grown-up Disney of sorts). There’s a tram driven by a guy in white gloves, and at Christmas, the streets actually snow. Not to mention amazing shops, plus the famous market, where you can find foods from every corner of the globe. After wiping Barney’s outlet store clean of heels, we headed to AOC, one of my favorite brunch spots. The decor is rustic and we sat outside on the beautiful sun-dappled patio. I love its farm-to-table fare: the gruyere omelette was creamy and delicious. The chef there, Suzanne Goin, is a bit of an LA legend, with a couple of other restaurants (Lucques and Tavern) with an equally cozy vibe.

Shopping, eating and laughing gets exhausting! So we headed back to the Sofitel for some pool time, before cocktails in the secret garden. It’s not really called that, but I honestly thought I was in Morocco or somewhere fabulously exotic – check out the cool decor!
