I’m sharing something very personal today 👶
Shortly after Inès was born, she was diagnosed with reflux. Essentially, that’s the same horrid acid reflux feeling we get as adults - but for babies- it stops them sleeping when they’re lying down, and can affect their feeding. Seeing my baby consistently in pain is one of the worst feelings I’ve ever experienced. We changed formulas, adjusted her diet, and were prescribed the antacid Omeprazole. To cut a long story short, by age 20 months, she had only slept through the night a handful of times. That level of sleep deprivation takes its toll on the entire family. This Christmas, @mackenziehunkin & I hit an all-time low, and struggled to cope. Inès was up between 2-3 hours a night, and this had been going on months. We had tried everything, and had a mattress on the floor by her cot, where one of us would lie next to her, cat-napping through the early hours.
Recommended by you guys, we called @Magic_Sleep_Fairy. She is a grandmother (and really, a Fairy Godmother) who has helped babies & children sleep, for decades. She came to stay, and assessed Inès in her genius, gentle way. She realised Inès still had reflux, and that having oat milk before bed was bothering her tummy. There were also learnt behaviours compacting the tummy issues, so we had a few things to deal with at once. We began to make several changes over the next few nights. It wasn’t easy, because Inès is old enough to protest, but gradually, we saw changes. About a week later, Inès went to bed without any tears, and slept through the night. The only tears were mine… of happiness and relief! Looking back, I am in awe of how little Inès still managed to smile and giggle everyday. I’m not sure how my husband and I kept our businesses and life in general going. I was so on edge, anything and everything made me tear up. In fact, I think I cried every day for a good 3 months.
Thank goodness, there is a happy ending here…
I filmed my experience- including the advice & changes from Alison (plus a kind offer for a discount on a video consultation with her) and it’s all on my stories now.
