Tartan Table

A tartan table is a little variation on the traditional red and green tables that are the go to for Christmas decorating. I often use tartan ribbon on the tree at Christmas but I decided to incorporate it into my decorating for this tartan table, by using a length of fabric and cutting it to fit, rather than finding a real tablecloth. I love the mix of the deep reddy-purple and bottle green with cut-crystal glasses, gold accents and typically festive fruit. It’s a really warming, cosy mix of colours that feels quite rich and warm – more suited to an evening Christmas meal, rather than lunch – perhaps?
I used some glass tree baubles on the table as decorations, and cut up some velvet ribbon to make the napkin bows, which really pop against white linen. Tree decorations used elsewhere in the house are a fun touch. I wanted deep purples for the flowers and kept them at a low level, in little jam jars, and then added the most decadent fruits and nuts I could find at my local green-grocers! A festive tablescape looking very Christmas ready.
