Blogging 101: How To Stand Out & Be Heard

Last time I posted my blogging and YouTube tips, I was so intrigued to find out how many of my readers are bloggers too! I wanted to talk about another topic today that I think is important for anyone with a blog to consider. With so many influencers and online entrepreneurs out there today, it’s absolutely crucial to stand out from the crowd in order to be successful. Figuring out how exactly to do this – when so many people are producing the same type of content – can be hard to do. I’ve done some research, and compiled some of my own tips that I’ve learned over the years for standing out as a blogger – so I’m sharing them with you today. I’m also interested to hear from you… What are some of your favorite blogs, and why? And what makes you come to Front Roe? Tell me below!

1. “Be so good they can’t ignore you.”
I love this quote by Steve Martin, and whether or not you’re a blogger, it rings true in every field. If you are absolutely excelling at whatever it is that you do, it will be impossible not to stand out. So how exactly do you achieve this? By producing quality content, of course! That means putting work, effort, and thought into everything you publish. I love a good iPhone photo, but all of my favorite bloggers incorporate beautiful imagery shot on professional cameras into their feed alongside any casual phone pics they might post. I think doing this sets you apart, when so many others are resorting to fast, iPhone-only content these days. It elevates your work, and brands appreciate the quality too.

2. Develop your brand.
Whether it’s your style of photography, the type of content you produce, or even the color theme of your Instagram – spend time developing a brand that your followers will recognize. The trick is to develop your own style. It may be tempting to try to reproduce what you see from other bloggers, but in the long run you’ll just blend in with a sea of digital influencers if you don’t develop something unique. Think about what makes you you, and play to those strengths.

3. Invest in video.
Videos are not only a great way for your audience to get to know you, but since they’re not as widely produced as still imagery they will give you a leg up in the industry. It takes time and effort to shoot and edit videos, but doing so in a high quality way will attract brands and followers alike. Studies show that conversion rates are much higher on videos, so they’re a great way to showcase sponsored content while still having an organic feel to them. Plus, your audience will love getting to know you in a much more intimate way, increasing the chance of repeat visitors on your blog.

4. Let your life influence your content.
Whether you’re a mom, a fashionista, a world traveler, or a foodie – let your passions influence the content you create. This will not only make your blog so much more genuine to who you are, but it will attract and resonate with an audience that also shares those passions. Plus, it will come so much more naturally if you’re producing content that is an extension of your everyday life.

5. Consistency is key.
One of the most important factors in developing and growing an audience is consistency. It’s impossible for an audience to get to know you and develop any sort of loyalty if you don’t produce regular content and engage with them on a consistent basis. And with the new Instagram algorithm, consistency in posting is crucial to experience any sort of growth. Whether you post daily, weekly or monthly – find a rhythm that works for you and your audience, and commit yourself to that. This is especially important if you’re posting on a platform like YouTube. Your subscribers become particularly dedicated when they can expect a video at a certain day or time. Stick to a schedule, and watch your follower count soar!

Great tips Louise! Fellow blogger here. Someone just asked me the other day to offer some advice on beginning a blogging journey and the first thing I said was – it’s requires consistency. You can be amazing but if you’re not consistent no one will care. I can be hard but anything worth having usually takes work!

    Keep it up,
