One of the things I love most about fashion is that you can really use clothes as a way to embody a trend, era, or even to emulate someone else’s style that you admire. One of my biggest fashion obsessions of the moment is ‘French girl style’. What I mean by this is that I am completely in love with the effortlessly cool and minimal style best sported by some of the chicest French bloggers – for example, Jeanne Damas, Camille Charriere and Anne-Laure of Adenorah. But the beauty of fashion in our digital age is that you no longer have to be French to be able to embody the look – in fact, one of my favorite non-French girls who nails this trend is my fellow Brit Lucy Williams. Think thin wrap dresses with a ruffled hem (in polka dots, small print florals, and colors like red and black), 90’s blue jeans, boyfriend tees, kitten heels, basket bags, all thrown together in an “undone” kind of way. Messy hair and smudged eyeliner is a must!
This super flattering wrap dress definitely ticks the box of the French look (you can watch me find and buy it on the latest vlog!). The wrap style is classically elegant, understated, and a little bit sexy – exactly how I think of these gorgeous French women wandering around the streets of Paris. Everything from the ruffles and the navy-red pattern is helping me channel my inner Lou Doillon, and on top of that is also very on trend at the moment.
The way to wear this dress has got to be with tousled ‘bed-head’ hair, barely-there makeup and minimal shoes or sneakers (or in my case, bare feet at the beach!). If the occasion demands a little more, add a red lip stain – for a softer look than perfectly applied red lipstick, to give you that just-sipped-red-wine look. Add some minimal accessories like layered gold necklaces, and cat eye sunnies to complete your look. Voila!
