Over the years, readers have asked me here and there whether I’ve ever done anything to ‘enhance’ my lips – and the answer is yes! Though not in the way you might think… I have learned tons of tips and tricks from makeup artists and other women in the entertainment biz for creating fuller, poutier looking lips – without the injections. Read my tips below!
Drink Up
My first secret to bigger looking lips might cause an eye roll or two, but bear with me. You always hear this, but hydration is literally the fountain of youth (sorry about the pun). It keeps your skin looking plumper, smoother, and younger – including on your lips. Ever have dry, crackly lips from being dehydrated? The skin on your lips has actually shriveled a bit from dryness in that instance. Drink lots of water and herbal tea throughout the day for benefits all around, but this is the foundation for plump lips. Keep a cute water bottle next do your desk all day, and download a water app that sends you notifications to remember to drink!
Lip Masks
Not only do you need hydration from within, but adding hydration topically is the second step to bigger lips. I’m sure you guys have seen these fun masks floating around social media these days, and they’re not only hilarious but really work wonders on your lips. Not only are they super hydrating, but they add other ingredients like collagen, vitamins and enzymes that naturally plump up your lips. I love doing these the morning before a shoot to boost my confidence a bit.
Lip Scrubs
In order to have a good canvas for absorbing these lip-plumping ingredients, you’ll need to exfoliate your lips every now and then to remove any dead skin cells. Your lip masks will be more effective, and you’ll love the way lipsticks and glosses sit on your lips after exfoliating. Shop some of my favorites here.
Invest In The Right Makeup
Find a lip liner, lipstick and gloss that match and enhance your natural lip color. Line the lip right to the edge, of not slightly over, where your lip meets your skin, and then line inside and color in the entire lip. The effect is amazing! Plus it will help your lipstick stay put all day. Gloss gives the impression of even bigger lips because the shine catches the light – this combination is my go-to for faking a bigger pout.
Love What You’ve Got!
And lastly, work with what you naturally have. We get bombarded all day long with images on social media of the ‘perfect’ lips, so it’s easy to get down on yourself from time to time if you feel that you don’t match up. Believe it or not, some people look better with smaller lips! Confidence is more attractive than anything else, so take care of your lips with the tricks above, and pucker up!
