One of my summer obsessions is watermelon. I buy a new one each week when I go to the grocery store and I always it eat up within a couple days, it’s just impossible not to. It’s so crisp and refreshing, and it’s also a totally guilt-free snack. I saw these cute DIY watermelon hearts on Instagram and thought they would be an adorable treat to set out for a few friends that came over recently (everyone loves watermelon, you can’t go wrong!).
What’s great about snacking on watermelon during the summer when it’s so hot (like it is in LA right now, over 90 degrees this week!) is that it’s mostly made of water, so it can help you stay hydrated. Plus it’s full of vitamins A, B6 and C, so you needn’t feel guilty about eating a whole half of one.. We’ve all been there. Read below for this insanely easy DIY for summer! (PS. I served these with some yummy homemade lemonade for some serious summer vibes)
1 medium sized watermelon
Heart shaped cookie cutter (this one is about 3” wide)
1) Cut the watermelon in half (long ways), and then cut it in the opposite direction into 1 inch thick crescent shapes
2) Lay flat and press the cookie cutter firmly into the red part of the watermelon, keeping the edge as close as you can to the outside of your slice
3) Turn the cookie cutter upside down and repeat until you’ve run out of room, and move onto the next slice (this allows you to get the most watermelon hearts out of each slice!)
**PS. If your hearts get a little misshapen, don’t stress – you can easily re-shape them with a knife
