Christmas is the most special time of year for me. I head back to London from LA, to spend time with my family and friends… There’s always a high school reunion, a university reunion, and this year I’m meeting all the babies my friends keep having! But there’s one day other than Christmas I always look forward to most: my day out with Mum. She’s my best friend and confidante, and I love her to pieces. We’re both Sagittarius so we celebrate our birthdays (belatedly!) and always go to a new exhibition. This year is was extra chilly, so we wrapped up warm in hats and gloves (and for me a cozy snood too) from White House Black Market, and took the train together to London from where she lives in the countryside.
Mum chose crisp cream accessories to compliment her classic camel wrap coat: such a timeless combination. As for my look, I LOVE the fact that sneakers are the shoe of the moment, because hiking around London’s rainy streets in heels isn’t fun. My Adidas Originals were comfy and cool paired with skinny leather pants and the soft oatmeal tones of my knitwear.
Mum and I got our nails done; hit the V&A’s Pleasure and Pain exhibit (where we saw high heels and sandals dating back to the 13th century…amazing!) and then ate lunch at one of her favorite spots, Daphne’s. Inside the restaurant was warm and elegant, so I chose a thin long sweater with batwing sleeves and a graphic black and white design, also from White House Black Market. A quick style tip? Batwing sleeves are perfect for a hint of retro glamour (Bianca Jagger loved them), whilst still keeping warm this time of year. In fact, I’m wearing the same top with thigh-high boots and black jeans for cocktails tonight!
