With Thanksgiving behind us and Christmas and New Years fast approaching, I’m in full holiday mode, and I’m partnering with Joe Fresh to talk about all things festive. I’ve been snuggling up in chunky cardigans, skinny pants and easy flats on these chilly evenings and weekends, the kind of look that is versatile enough to sit on the couch watching a movie, but also head out shopping in. I love this bell-sleeve cardigan for hanging around the house, or this cool zig zag roll neck sweater with boyfriend jeans for running to the flea market. Plus, I’m answering some of your holiday questions below!

Where will you be spending the holidays this year? And what are your favourite holiday traditions?
I’ll be headed to the countryside in England, where I grew up, to spend some down time with my best friends and family. About five of my close friends have given birth since I’ve last been back, so I have a bunch of cute babies to meet! My Mum sings in a choir, so every year we go to watch her in her concert, and head to the pub for a red wine afterwards! I also plan to read some of my friend Pip’s new children’s books – The Umbrella Girls – to my nieces over Christmas. They’re such unique, inspirational stories for young girls and I am in love with the illustrations!
How do you decorate your house for the holidays? Do you have any favourite tips for creating a festive atmosphere at home?
This year since I’m renovating my house and spending a few weeks across the pond, I’m not going full blown with my holiday decor. But I usually love light and bright decorations like delicate mini string lights to add some glow to my living room, pomegranates to add color to my dining room tabe, and of course yummy scented candles to really get you in the holiday mood. My favorite is Pumpkin Chai by Nest – it has just the perfect hint of cinnamon and pumpkin. I also make orange and clove pomanders: they’re fun to make with my nieces and make the whole room smell like Christmas.
Everyone loves to indulge during the holidays. What’s your strategy for staying somewhat healthy while enjoying all that eggnog and Panettone?
There are so many treats that I can’t say no to when I go home for the holidays – my Mum’s curry chicken salad and lemon cheesecake for a start. I balance it out by going on lots of long walks with my dad, or substituting a big fried breakfast with oatmeal (which we call porridge!) if I know I’m going to have a big dinner out with my family. It’s all about moderation and enjoying yourself! The holidays don’t last forever, and you’ll always have the New Year to get back on track.
Speaking of indulgences, what are some of your favourite holiday recipes or treats?
Mulled wine is my go-to drink recipe over the holidays, and I love making chocolate dipped Italian butter cookies to give as gifts – they’re perfect for friends, business associates, you name it! And so easy to make.
The Joe Fresh Gift Guide has lots of great ideas for everyone’s holiday shopping lists. What would you buy for your Mom? Your Dad? Your best friend? The favourite kid in your life?
My Mum would love this classic Polka Dot Tee. You can wear it tucked into an A-line skirt for a glamorous party look, or with jeans and boots for an outdoor stroll. I’m loving leather skirts at the moment, and my bestie would look so chic in this Faux Leather Pocket Skirt and Tuxedo Blouse. My dad is a classic man, and I could totally see him rocking this Puffer Vest over a cozy sweater at home. I’m also super into pom pom beanies at the moment, and I’m obsessed with this cute Hat and Mittens Set for the little ones. I absolutely love gifting!
Three songs that every holiday party should play: Go!
I’m loving Justin Bieber’s new album actually, ha! Anything by Aluna George, and then you’ve got to throw a jazzy Frank Sinatra hit in for good measure.
Which New Year’s resolutions did you follow through on this year? Which ones did you flake out on? And what are some ideas to make sure resolutions are kept?
I think it’s important to be realistic, and not set yourself goals that are going to be impossible to stick to! I wanted to learn to surf (which I haven’t) and learn to cook (which I kind of have) and to start meditating (yes! Did that one and love it!)
