In my mind, there’s no makeup look as timeless and sexy as the cat-eye. Incredibly versatile, a cat-eye can go from work to play with just some tiny tweaks – for daytime-chic, pair it with a neutral lipstick or sheer balm, and when you’re heading out on the town, add an extra coat of mascara, smudge a little more kohl on the inside of your lower lid, and a bold lip. Its gentle lines make the eyes appear larger, more feline (hence the name…), and the winged finish is the perfect way to give your look a flirty final touch. Plus, like a red lip, the cat-eye will never go out of style (and what’s not to love about that?).
Here’s how you get a perfect wing every time:
STEP 1: Start with an eyeshadow primer to ensure your cat-eye stays smudge-free.
STEP 2: Grab your liquid liner: I like pens, although you can also use a pot of pigment and a slanted brush. Stretch your eyelid straight out by pulling from the temple. Keep your eyelid gently closed, and start at the middle of your lash line, drawing a straight line out. It’s important to be patient here – it took me a few times to finally get the hang of it.
STEP 3: Then, trace a thin line from the inner corner of the eye until it meets the beginning of the line you created in step 2.
STEP 4: Lastly, draw a line from your lower lash line and connect it to the outer wing on the top. Fill in the little triangle in the corner, add a some mascara, and you’re all done!
