My First Valentine’s Day As A Newlywed

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and I’m already planning my date night outfit (you know me!). It feels a little more special this year, being our first Valentine’s Day as a married couple. I can’t wait to see what Mackenzie has in store. He usually takes the reigns and plans some sort of romantic (and always hilarious) surprise for me. He once left about 50 pink post-it notes on our fridge with all the different reasons why he loves me, shaped into a giant heart. He even once set up a treasure hunt full of humorous and sentimental clues around the house, which started with a box of takeaway pizza and ended with a piñata containing a note inside that said “I love you” (which was the first time he ever said it to me!).

This year we’ll be in New York for the craziness of Fashion Week, same as last year, but even though I’ll be working, we will for sure set aside some special time together. We like to keep Valentine’s Day true to who we are as a couple – spontaneous, unconventional, and of course a little cheeky. I’ve dropped a couple of hints to him though, so we’ll see if he takes note (I’ve always wanted to go on a horse drawn carriage through Central Park, it could be so romantic all cozied up with a blanket). I want to make sure my look is both flirty and classic, so I’m going for simple and sexy red with some gorgeous stacked jewelry from LAGOS.

LAGOS is one of my favorite fine jewelry brands (see how I styled more of their pieces for the holidays here). All their collections have a fascinating story behind the idea. This year for Valentine’s Day I’ll be wearing pieces from two of their recent collections. The Enso collection (‘Enso’ is the Japanese word for circle), symbolizes unbroken and everlasting strength – certainly something I strive to achieve within my marriage. I love this mixed metal ring with interlocked circles, it’s actually so romantic when you think about what it means! I also love their Embrace collection, inspired by the infamous Constantine Brancusi sculpture, “The Kiss”, which depicts an everlasting embrace, and a representation of true love.

Can’t wait to celebrate with the hubs! How will you be spending Valentine’s Day this year?
