Being the avid traveler that I am, I love picking up the styles and trends of different cities as I trot around the globe. However, with the fun of travel comes the dilemma of packing for regular climate transition from summer to winter wardrobes.
I’m delighted to be a judge on the panel for the Design Your Own Rain Boot competition, launched by much-loved British lifestyle brand, Joules. The winning design will be available to buy online and the winner will receive a $10,000 luxury break in London. Joules knows a thing or two about dressing for the English capital, so I picked my favorite trends from their AW15 collection. Also check out my tips on packing for a trip to London below.
Choosing a wardrobe that’s ready for any weather is key. Check the weather forecast before you jet off to London, but my beloved Britain does like to throw weather curve balls, so be prepared for four seasons in one day! When I’m in London I’m usually on the run, attending work events or catching up with friends, so I want a simple wardrobe I can throw on without too much thought. I suggest packing three to four colors max. Start with shades of navy or grey, and add some red, green or yellow color pops to make your outfit stand out.
My London Essentials
Skinny Jeans:
London ladies dig denim, and a pair of skinnies can easily be dressed up with a cami or blouse for evening, or layered up with a chunky sweater for exploring the outdoors by day.
A Staple Shirt:
A cotton shirt is another easy day-to-night piece, wear under chunky knitwear by day, or rock it solo with a statement necklace for evenings out.
A Classic Coat or Blazer:
Cute outerwear is a must for autumn and winter in London. This tweed blazer from Joules is a British style classic, and doubles as a coat when layered with knitwear. It’s perfect for day-to-night, which gives you options and makes packing much lighter.
An Oversized Scarf:
A scarf is such a versatile accessory, and an oversized blanket scarf will keep you extra warm while adding a pop of color to your outfit. Don’t leave your hotel without one!
Iconic Chelsea Boots:
Quintessentially English ankle boots, (and named after one of my favorite shopping spots in London) Chelsea boots look smart and are practical too. They work in warm and cold climates, and are comfortable enough to spend the whole day jetting about town.
