How do I rush around the city all day, still looking cute without sacrificing comfort? That’s one of the most popular questions I get asked by you guys, and it’s often a tricky one to get just right. The weather might be freezing, the streets wet and cobbled (like London – a disaster for new heels) and if, like me, you’re hopping on and off the bus or tube all day, it’s a bit too urban to rock your glitziest sequins and faux fur. But you still want to look chic, right?! Let me talk you through one of my favorite days from the holidays just gone, and how I put my look together.
One of the things I love best about visiting London is that I get to play tourist in my old city. I started my day with breakfast in the Mirror room at the Rosewood Hotel – which is honestly my favorite pitstop in town: the décor is elegant but cozy, the food is yummy, and the building, which has an enormous courtyard surrounded by Victorian architecture, is awe-inspiring. So after kicking off a long day’s sight-seeing with eggs benedict and two lattes, I checked out the new Horst fashion photography exhibit at the V&A, the sales (of course! Too much spent at Topshop!) lunch at the French Brasserie Colbert on Sloane Square, and then the Charles Dickens museum (his old townhouse, in fact) something I’d always wanted to do since I studied him fanatically at uni.
Planning an outfit for a long day on your feet is always tricky: I didn’t want feet full of blisters and a freezing red nose by 4pm. So these kitten heel boots were perfect for walking non-stop; and layering a thin suede jacket under another thin overcoat was great for constantly switching between indoors and outdoors. The tassles? Well they were there for nothing but fun! I’ve never, ever worn tassels before and when I saw the fun suede jacket and to-die-for bucket J&M Davidson drawstring bag, I knew they had to take an outing together. Why not bring a little cowgirl chic to the mean streets of London?
