How To Get Your Patio Summer-Ready

I’m just about to head to Coachella for the weekend, and I’m so excited to be heading back to the desert. Though it’s only Spring, Coachella always feels like the start of summer here in LA – we’re spray tanned and bikini-ready for the festival, so we might as well keep the sunshine-party vibes going!

Since we moved into our new home a few months ago, I’ve been dying to spruce up the back patio (which is also home to our first pool, major yay!). As you guys might know, I’m obsessed with old movies, and am super inspired by ones based in the French Riviera (like La Piscine, you have to check it out). I wanted our pool deck to feel very California-cool meets French Riviera, so Serena & Lily’s blue and white range was the natural answer to that.

The bistro-style chairs and matching bar are to die for and called the ‘Riviera’ collection, which is just too fitting. And how cool are these massively oversized outdoor pillows? They are so comfy and go perfectly in our lounger.

When you’re decorating your outdoor space, you want all of your pieces to work together, just like they would inside of your home. Pick a theme, but make it more closely tied to nature than perhaps your inside style is – the beach, the woods and the desert are all great themes for outdoor spaces. Since my vibe is a little South of France, I paired the chairs with a rustic table, piece of driftwood for a coastal touch, a huge bird of paradise plant and string lights above the pool.

So where do you begin when you want to overhaul your yard? Start by grounding your outdoor space with the right furniture – this will largely determine the rest of your theme, then choose fun and durable accents to go along. Plants and decorations that you choose for your outdoor space have to be water and sun proof, so succulents and outdoor throw pillows are always a failsafe way to bring some style to your patio. Also, I highly suggest investing in an outdoor bar that also functions as a cooler, for keeping all those summer sips nice and chilly. What do you guys think? Bring on the summer!
