I am an avid tequila drinker, and I’ve had to convince a few friends of my go-to spirit. Granted, one bad tequila hangover from years ago is enough to make people swear it off, but I absolutely love the spicy kick from tequila’s naughtier, smokier older sister. Enter: my famous summer mezcal cocktail.
I’ve been winning over my friends with this refreshing cocktail that is perfect for summer. All you need is a good silver mezcal, some lime, agave nectar and a dash of chili for some heat. Not too sweet, and not too overwhelming: it’s the perfect gender-neutral cocktail for an evening outdoors. Try it yourself this Summer, shake it up, and let me know how it goes!
4 ounces silver mezcal
Juice of 4 limes
2 tablespoons agave nectar
1 dried red chili
Lime wedge, to garnish
2 sprigs of thyme, to garnish
Step 1: Gather your ingredients into an ice-filled shaker and shake them up. Have some fun here -make a beat or do a samba, get moving! You’ll want to be warmed up for the moves this drink will encourage later on.
Step 2: Pour the mixture into festive summer glasses and garnish with a lime wedge and thyme sprigs. If you’re feeling fancy and have some time before the party, I love dropping a sprig of thyme or a lime slice into an oversize ice cube tray. It makes serving this drink on the rocks so beautiful and chic!
