The Chic Ribbon Ponytail Trend

I recently removed my extensions and am so happy to have my natural hair back. While I loved the long locks, I couldn’t do certain basic hairstyles as easily, such as a high or mid ponytail, or even my go-to top knot. One trend that I couldn’t wait to try once I could do a pony again, was the chic ponytail ribbon hairstyle that I’ve seen about the runways and red carpets over the last few months.

I love the chic touch of a velvet or silk ribbon, which in my opinion is the perfect way to jazz up a simple ponytail, and even makes it a touch dressier. The best part, is it doesn’t take any extra hairstyling skills to achieve! I would recommend starting with a light wave in your hair to give your pony some texture and volume. Do your normal part (mine is in the middle), and secure your ponytail with a regular hair tie. Fasten a simple bow around the hair tie, and voilá! I pulled out some extra pieces in the front to give it a more casual feel, but you could easily pull all your hair back in a sleek pony for a more black-tie appropriate look.

I recommend buying a high quality ribbon, as cheaper/shiny ribbons can tend to look a little tacky. Going to a wedding or formal event? Go for black silk or velvet. If you’re just looking to elevate an everyday casual look, try a dark brown velvet ribbon like the one I’m wearing here, for an instant dose of chicness!

Hi! I think burgundy or dark green would look gorgeous with black hair. There are no rules so have fun experimenting! xx, Louise
