I’ve lived in LA for 7 years and there is still so much to discover here. It can get easy to stick to your little neighborhood, as everything is so spread out (and the traffic doesn’t always motivate you to go exploring!). But there are a few things that every person visiting, or even living in LA, must explore if they haven’t already – the Griffith Observatory, hiking to the Hollywood sign, beach days in Malibu, and the Huntington Library in Pasadena. I had been here once before shooting the very first episode of Plain Jane, but hadn’t gotten the chance to explore the many acres of gardens, all from different climates of the world. There’s the cactus garden, rose garden, Japanese garden – even an Australian garden! We stopped for a quick pick me up at the tea room right off the rose garden, it was so beautiful and breezy, with the roses in full bloom it became the perfect setting for this flowing red maxi dress. I felt right back in the south of France again.
Sometimes it can be fun pairing formal and casual items together – I’ve worn this dress out to events or to date night a handful of times, but paired it with flat leather sandals and a gold choker for walking around in this LA heat by day. It’s also fun to reimagine an evening dress like this into a summer day sundress – it’s such an unexpected. Next time you’re heading out into the heat, throw on a dressy maxi with casual sandals and call it a day!
