The midi skirt is one of those essential wardrobe pieces that every woman simply must have, in different variations. From pencil to A-line, leather to lace – midi skirts are such a great foundation for the perfect outfit, for any occasion. I probably own one in just about every color, but they really don’t just sit in my closet. I wear them with boyfriend tees and sneakers for grabbing coffee, or with a structured oxford shirt and stilettos for a meeting. There’s something that’s just so chic about this length of a skirt, and they live perfectly between the casual and dressed-up realms of your style.
When styling a midi skirt, I tend to stick to the same formula when it come to proportions – if the skirt is fuller or more A-line, I go for fitted on top. If the skirt is fitted, I go for flowier on top. There needs to be a balance between the shapes to avoid adding weight to yourself or making yourself appear shorter than you are. This time, I went for a classic cashmere roll-neck sweater – fitted to balance out the fullness on the bottom and tucked in to show off the high waist, so flattering. I also love to play with color when I’m putting together an outfit, so I kept this palette simple by sticking to taupes and greens, which is such a rich color combo that I really love. I added a statement heel for a bit of a pop, and went for sexy smudged eyeliner and full lashes to add some oomph to my look.
