My Navy Obsession

I know it’s still summer, but it’s time to start spotting a few key pieces to add to your for fall/winter wardrobe. It’s always good to plan ahead with fashion, and get your styling juices flowing early! Layers truly make the outfit. And I always say that a great coat is a layering essential – your coat should always make a statement, it’s the first (and often only) thing people see in the winter – so make that first impression count. Most people opt for a simple black coat in the effort to keep styling easy, but I personally prefer navy. There’s something chic and European about a navy coat, and this season’s twist is to add a little print. Navy has become one of my palette obsessions – replacing black as a chic alternative that goes with everything from brights and metallics, to classic neutrals. This printed coat by St. John is a great investment piece as you can style it up or down with simple accessory alternates. It’s thin enough to wear while the weather’s still mild, and I love the soft, unstructured feel when I belt it. Kind of like a mix between an overcoat and a cardigan. Play around with your look this fall: switching the belt for something thicker can add a more formal touch and an hourglass silhouette. Adding a statement collar necklace and open toe sandals amp up the glam factor for an evening out. Or rock a thin tee and navy St. John leather pants, like I did, for a dressy day look.

And keep your makeup dewy and natural – let the coat be the star of the show. GlamApp gave me apricot cheeks with a hinkt of shimmer on the brow bone and cheek bones, and a simple bend in the hair, leaving the ends straight for the messy vibe I love so much.
