It goes without saying that weddings are a very personal event for each couple. Whether you’re planning a grand destination wedding with all your family and friends, or simply heading down to the courthouse – your wedding reflects your style and values as a couple. When it comes to wedding traditions, there’s a range of what couples prefer. Mackenzie and I had a relatively traditional wedding – I wore a white gown, we didn’t see each other the night before the wedding, and we exchanged Church of England vows. We got married in a historical chapel, dating back to the 15th Century, in the village of Eton, England, so we really enjoyed embracing these rituals. But today, many couples forego certain traditions – taking photos before the ceremony, writing (or singing!) their own vows, and playing up their bridal looks.
Think Olivia Palermo, who wore a chic sweater paired with shorts and a tulle skirt. Or Bianca Jagger, who wore a skirt suit and glamorous, wide-brim hat when she married Mick. I’ve been seeing more and more brides embrace wedding looks that aren’t your typical white gown, so today I wanted to share some of my favorite ideas for the non-traditional bride!
Two-Piece Wonders
Who said brides can only wear dresses? Well, believe it or not, mixing and matching is definitely allowed. Whether it’s a statement top paired with a tulle or flowy skirt, all eyes will all be on you. My personal favorite is definitely the silk cami with the matching skirt.
Neutral Hues
If you’d like to stick to more traditional style, then maybe just change it up by going for a pretty blush, nude, or even dove grey. My one styling tip is to go for a silhouette that’s a little different than the others, such as some head-turning embroidery, a cape, or an off-the-shoulder look.
Go Bold or Go Home
If you’d like to opt for something really out of the box, a bright wedding gown should do the trick. I’m always for a very alluring red, a subtle blue, or if you’re feeling really daring, yellow is something that will definitely stand out. Better yet, go for a totally unexpected print!
Follow Suit
If you want to follow in Emily Ratajkowski’s footsteps and really step outside of the box, go for a chic pantsuit – whether in ivory (or a bold color). They’re elegant and timeless, and you’ll be super comfy while you dance the night away.
