A few tips that will help you look chic without spending a fortune on your outfits…
- Size & shape are crucial. Pick items that fit you properly and flatter your figure and you will instantly look stylish. Tailored items from the high street are so impressive now, it’s often hard to tell the difference. I’m talking front-pleat trousers, long lapel blazers, tapered suits… have a real browse.
- Cover the bases. You should always have clothes that are neutral, without complicated patterns, and are easy to mix with other items in your closet. Plain white, beige, and black t-shirts, a pair of flats, a blazer, blue jeans, and a pair of black trousers are some of the essentials you need.
- Iron or steam your clothes. It might sound silly, but you will look much more elegant and neat with wrinkle-free clothes.
- Borrow. Personally, I love Mackenzie’s closet – it’s my favourite spot when I need a shirt, anything oversized, or classic sunnies.
- Wear yellow-gold chunky jewellery. It’s one of my absolute staples and it instantly elevates any look.
- Invest in timeless, quality pieces that you’ll be able to wear for years to come. Whether that’s a bag, a coat, or a pair of shoes, add something that is not to do with any trend, but rather something that will stand the rest of time, to your look.
My chic-on-a-budget look includes affordable trousers, an embroidered cardigan (ok that one was a little more pricey!), old ankle boots, borrowed sunnies, and a classic leather bag. I’ve linked to some of my favourite items to mix and match below:
