A Winter Maxi Dress

2020 has been a bit of a rollercoaster. With so much time spent at home I really relaxed into my loungewear but the last few months of being out and about really reminded me of how good it feels to wear great clothes- from heightening your confidence and how you hold yourself to first impressions and generally lifting your mood, it’s been so good to get back into the swing of things. With the UK in a second lockdown, I’m being as proactive as possible. Dressing up when I want to; enjoying the winter sun and adding to my list of small independent retailers and sustainable labels are all things I’m going to make a real effort to do over the next few weeks. How to start? A winter maxi dress.

Although I definitely plan on enjoying days in cosy knits and cashmere socks, there are always times when I want to dress up. From at at-home date night to a work-related Zoom call or even when I want to feel a bit more like myself, I’ll be reaching for one of these wintery maxi dresses. Rich tones like plum, copper and navy combined with long sleeves and some gorgeous necklines is what I’m going for. Dispense with the need for uncomfortable tights and explore the various ways you can accessorise a maxi dress and the range of styles around. A knitted dress with a rollneck is as great for a working day as it is for a weekend and a floaty floral maxi with long sleeves can work loosely over trainers or create a bit of shape with a belt and paired with boots.

Midi hemlines are good for us tall girls and I’d be surprised if you had a pair of flats or boots that didn’t work underneath. In the winter, comfort is key and wearing a printed or plain long dress is the perfect way to stay warm without looking like you’re wearing twelve layers. A winter maxi dress is really coming to my rescue this season, and I hope it can do the same for you!

TIP: One of the chicest ways to dress up a winter maxi dress is to wear it with a structured overcoat (think double breasted navy or camel) or a trench coat and knee high boots. It’s a great way to stay warm while looking put together.
