Welcome To The World, Baby Honor! Our Birth Story

As many of you guys may already know, last month on January 11th, our daughter Honor Florence Crosby Hunkin was born. What you guys may not know, is that her labor and delivery story was quite quick and rather dramatic (in a good way!). I asked on my Instagram a few weeks ago whether you’d all like to see a video about our birth story, and we got an overwhelming response encouraging us to do one – so here we are!

I felt that it was important to share our safe, positive story to encourage other mums to be out there. I know from personal experience that there are so many terrifying horror stories out there that people love to tell you when you’re pregnant, and so many mixed messages that you read online. I was so worried about the birthing process before it actually happened, and I feel so blessed that it went so well, and that we’ve been recovering so nicely. Watch the video below to see what my labor was like, my thoughts on epidurals, and how Mackenzie did during the whole process (hint: he was amazing). Thank you so much for all of your love and support during this special time for our little family!

Any of you mummas out there who follow me: I’d love to hear your birth stories too! Tell me in the comments below.

xx,

How beautifully you have shared the miracle of birth. I am weeping! My own 3 are now 30,27, and 21 and even now I remember those first glorious moments of meeting, touching, kissing and smelling(!) them each for the first time. Enjoy every moment. As it is said, the days seem long but the years fly by. Congratulations!

Loved hearing your birth story! So much for long labors with your first! My birth story was remarkably similar to yours. My daughter Norah was born very quickly as well and in much the same manor. I am currently pregnant with my second and I am praying for the same type of delivery. Wishing your family much love and thank you for sharing. <3

Wow such a fabulous and positive birth story. I’ve had two section deliveries both very different experiences.
I think some people think it’s the easy option. However, the recovery takes a while and found second time round I couldn’t pick my three year old up which was a massive deal because she is a mummy’s girl. Persoanlly I think it doesn’t matter how you birth your babies ? as long as mama and bubs are both safe is what counts. Love your blog. Keep It coming ???.

Hi Louise! I have 2 children and when my son Jack was born (first) I had a horrible experience with the epidural. For my daughter Grace I did not get the epidural and my labor and recovery was a thousand times better. It is the best feeling in the world when they put your baby on your chest so that’s why we have more of we are able! Thanks for sharing and I truly love your style! I was in the fashion biz for many years and miss being in NYC. Can’t wait to see what Honor will be stylin!

  7. Jorja says:

Congratulations! Isn’t it just mind blowing the whole experience. Wow that is a quick labour!! I also experienced a quick surprising first labour with my bubba, not as quick as yours but I think a very similar experience!! I posted my birth story on my blog if you wanted to see.

    Hi Louise,

Congratulations on the birth of Honor! She is just beautiful.
I wouldn’t normally comment but I felt an overwhelming need to do so here.
I have a 10 month old boy and unfortunately I had a very long and traumatic labour. Listening to your birth story brought back a lot of emotions that I’ve hidden away in a little box in my head.
We’re keen to start trying for number two in the near future and it’s so refreshing to hear a good birthing story, not just all the bad ones. I’m a firm believer that all births are different and I’m just hoping that next time around is a lot more manageable!
Enjoy your little girl and your wonderful new family. It’s a magical time! Xx

Birth stories are so beautiful…I’ve had three, each different and special. One a little hard but each to be treasured and remembered. We usually retell each year on their birthday. Enjoy?

  23. Isobel says:

Ahh lovely story! Congratulations on the birth of Honor!
In May 2017, I had to be induced as I went 2 weeks overdue, and was super anxious, so also asked for an epidural at the first opportunity. Mine also only worked fully on the left side, so I could still feel contractions on the right too. I could also feel when baby was down very low too, and managed to push her out in 25 minutes – neither of which I was expecting with the epidural. So nice to hear another story that challenges the negative stuff you hear about epidurals. They’re great!

  24. Molly says:

I loved watching this, thank you so much for sharing!

  25. Rose says:

Hi Lou, I had a very similar story but I woke up to the noise of my waters breaking. I had my little girl 4 hours later. Love the epidural! I was very late. I was supposed to be induced but didn’t want to be. I agreed to be induced at 42 weeks but I had her at 41 weeks and 5 days without any intervention. I personally don’t think she was late as I went naturally! So I think they just got the dates wrong! And as you probably know, the dating isn’t an exact science. Congratulations x

  26. Emma Fogarty says:

Wow Louise congratulations… I have three of my own and have wonderful stories on each of their pregnancies and their deliveries. Wish I could do it all over again. Two out of the three were au natural and its the most wonderful feeling in the world (pain… a little but you soon forget ?) one piece of advice cherish every moment as they grow so quickly and each stage is a precious as the last…

  27. Jae says:

    Beautiful story! Congratulations again!

My story was identical to yours…except my son was 2 weeks early and there was no epidural!! He is now 34 and is expecting his first child due…wait for it…the same day he was born.
