Guys, I’m so excited to announce an incredible interview that I did with my dear friend Jeremiah Brent for ‘Behind The Design’ by Living Spaces. We chatted about everything: from my childhood, to how I got started in my career, my biggest ambitions and fears, and of course – what went into designing our new home. You can catch my full interview on the Living Spaces blog, which launches mid September! Make sure to keep an eye out for that, and read below for a sneak peek into what we discussed.
For one, as you guys know I’m a huge bookworm, so I it’s completely necessary for me to have a library. When we viewed this home before purchasing, I loved that it had huge built-in book shelves in the living room, and imagining my collection of novels (that I’ve hauled everywhere with me since I left England), there was one of the first signs that the house was for us.
Mackenzie and I love entertaining our friends, so having a space that was elegant but comfortable to guests was very important to us. We have a bar cart that I’m obsessed with (which is always fully stocked, of course), and our living room was inspired by old school English gentlemens’ clubs, to give it a cozy, slightly masculine and classic feel. It’s a place that you feel comfortable taking a load off, having a drink or two, sharing some laughs, and even binge-watching your favorite shows.
Another favorite space of mine in the house is my study, where I spend the majority of my week writing for Front Roe. Since I work from home, my study needed to be clean and serene, and a touch girly. It has photos by many of my favorite photographers on the walls, which give me constant inspiration. Sinking into a comfy arm chair is a must for long hours in front of the computer.
Lastly, the pool! We spend a lot of time on our back pool deck. It was the major bonus that caused us to truly fall in love with the house. You can often find us back there relaxing with a book, a glass of wine, hanging with friends, or even shooting outfits for the blog! It’s a gorgeous backdrop that always makes me want to wear timeless, easy pieces in light, neutral colors – with fun pops of course. You’ll find splashes of bright colors and fun accents like pineapples all over the place (both in the house and even on my clothing, like this fun clutch) – I’ve heard that aside from being cute, they’re apparently symbolic of good hospitality! Let me know what you think in the comments below, and don’t forget to watch the full video, launching on the Living Spaces blog mid September!
xx,
