Spring is in full swing, and while I’m in love with feminine flair and delicate florals at the moment, I’m also loving a bold power suit as an option for a work outfit this season. There’s nothing more empowering than wearing a sharp tailored suit, and even more so when it’s in a bold color like this red number by my good friend Millie Mackintosh. I’ve talked a lot about the science of color on my blog, and there’s no more powerful color than red!
When wearing such a bold color, you want to keep the rest of your outfit as simple and neutral as possible. I paired my red suit with a warm caramel top, suede heels, slicked back hair and natural make-up. Some other neutral color options are heather grey and taupe – these earthy colors would look great with any bold color and bring together the outfit way better than wearing stark black or white.
An outfit like this will definitely make a statement, but that statement needs to be strong, almost effortless – and definitely not tacky. Styling a power suit with clean, classic shoes and accessories will make sure that you don’t go overboard, which is easy to do in such a bright color.
Another great tip for putting together an outfit like this is to avoid anything with too much sparkle or shine, so avoid patent shoes or bags or oversized jewelry that might clash. Simple gold jewelry and neutral sunnies should do the trick. When wearing such a bold suit, let the color itself do the talking and keep your accessories to a minimum – same goes for makeup.
You can even try this look in another monochromatic scheme, like all-camel, bright white, or even a punchy cobalt blue. It’s so striking – what do you guys think? Let me know in the comments!
