What To Wear When It Rains

LA has been uncharacteristically rainy this winter, but I’m not complaining. While LA seems to be built for sunny summer days, I’ve been loving a break from the heat, and we’ve desperately needed rain due to the drought. But mostly, I love nothing more than cuddling up with a cup of tea when it’s rainy and gloomy out. It reminds me a bit of England and makes me feel at home.

The thing about rain in LA is that it rarely pours all day long, so there’s not much need for wellies and waterproof overcoats. It comes and goes throughout the day, meaning you can dress cute while still being practical. My go-to for a rainy LA day is a camel coat – it doesn’t really drop below 50 here even when it rains, so it’s the perfect weight and really warms up the look of your skin when the light is dreary. Plus, you’re most likely driving (it is LA after all) rather than sloshing down a wet street in your boots, so you can get away with wearing suede boots while you hop in and out of your car.

One styling trick that I like to use during winter is to wear warm colors like camel, rust and brown. Certain colors like black, red, and blue during winter can tend to wash you out, as you’re probably less likely to have a tan leftover from the summer months (unless you were lucky enough to go on holiday somewhere tropical, in which case, jealous!). What’s great about a warm color palette too, is that you can layer them with each other and it looks even better – take this rust/camel combo for instance. Pieces that are worn around your face, i.e. a sweater or hat, can really warm up your complexion, so go for warm colors with accessories like a hat or scarf. Happy snuggling!

I love how you use these colours to make sure you still pop and look great regardless of the rainy weather! You don’t look washed out for sure and you look as gorgeous as ever – I love that the look is simple but still beautiful!

I love this outfit and I definitely think these colors will be in again this season. The warm hues always do me some good so I am glad! Better than being flushed out in those winter blues right?
