Spring isn’t quite in full swing yet, so I’m in the mood for lots of layering. While the weather has been unpredictable in LA, I’ve been traveling enough lately to feel the full effects of winter all over the country (hence the need for packing layers when I fly). New York might as well have been Antarctica during fashion week! The one thing I really love about cold weather? Getting to bundle up in long, elegant coats. I absolutely love a statement coat – you can be wearing the most simple outfit underneath, but a statement coat will add a pop to your look that keeps it interesting, while at the same time keeping you warm.
I just love this embellished one from BCBG – the intricate beading and embroidery really added texture to the look, and not to mention it’s just gorgeous. I kept my look tonal, but added some contrast with the colorblock print of this shift dress. The 60’s is one of my favorite decades for fashion: so much color and print layered on top of each other. To keep the look pulled together, I added some over-the-knee boots in the same tone as the rest of my outfit. Dressing tonally can be a fun way to experiment with mixing different prints and textures – just make sure there’s some variation in the shades of color. To finalize my look I went for soft curls that felt a bit retro.
