Every closet needs a balance of chic investment pieces that will last you a lifetime, and a sprinkle of bright and bold items that show off this season’s cutest trends. It’s a big ying and ylang. Recently (perhaps after all the traveling), I’ve noticed that my style has transitioned to loving elegant, timeless pieces that I can style up and down with something bright or right off the runway. There’s something really satisfying about carefully curating capsule wardrobe: about 8 pieces that you’ll wear over and over. They need to be good quality, a silhouette that really suits you, and a neutral color. The first piece on my list, is this White House Black Market cashmere vest that I drooled over in their lookbook, and decided to pair with a silk blouse here for an important meeting, and later switched into ripped jeans and caged heels for dinner. This vest owes much of it’s versatility to it’s dove grey color scheme (this shade is going to huge for fall, so stock up), and looks best when you wear it worn. The key here is varying the palette with different shades of grey (excuse the pun!!) and contrasting luxe textures like silk, suede, denim and cashmere.
