Summer Skin (and hair!) Savers

We’re well into summer and hopefully by this point, SPF has officially earned a place in your daily beauty arsenal, (it definitely has in mine). But despite my best efforts, my skin (and hair) still needs an extra bit of TLC during the warmer months. I can’t stress enough how important it is to switch up your beauty routine to coincide with the seasons, and summer is no exception. In fact, our skin has a completely different set of needs once exposed to the humid summer air. Caught in a constant barrage of elements and formulas, confused skin is a common by-product of summer – often feeling dry then becoming unbearably oily as the day progresses. And if you’re like me, a few too many dips in the pool or ocean has stripped your hair from it’s bounce-promoting moisture, leaving your strands frizzy and parched. Hydration is key – (yes even to combat oil) so start nourishing from the inside out by drinking plenty of water, and take a peek at the products I’m using now to protect, heal, and seal my summer skin.

Unite 7 Seconds Leave-In Detangler: Perfect for the summer swimmer. Chlorine has an extremely drying effects on your hair and a post swim air dry (despite the gorgeous beachy waves) can leave hair feeling crunchy and tangled. After a wash, spritz on this formula to detangle, lock in moisture, and protect against heat styling and sun rays.

Tresemme Wave Creation Sea Foam: The safe alternative to create beachy waves without the drying effects of the sand and sun. The “sea foam” or kelp extract actually softens the hair, eliminating frizz and leaving a great summer scent.

Moroccan Oil Treatment: A beauty industry heavy-weight, this ultra rich oil works on every hair type and style. I love this multitasking oil as a leave-in conditioner post-wash or as a smoothing serum pre-blowout.

SheaMoisture Coconut and Hibiscus Dry Oil Mist: I’m strongly driven by fragrance so you can believe me when I say, you should pick up a few bottles of this magical oil (you’ll want to spray every bit of skin). The fast drying mist is a parched skin must – moisturizing the skin with nourishing Shea butter to help promote even tone and texture, and leaving a light tropical scent.

Suds and Lather Botanical Muscle Salve: From muscle aches to dry elbows and knees, this all-natural salve is a long-lasting (and fragrant) life saver. Salves are great in the summer because of their multi-purpose uses and lasting power.

Elizabeth Arden Flawless Future Caplet Serum: This nifty looking formula instantly refreshes my skin, locking in moisture and acting as an anti-aging barrier. Too much sun can lead to early formation wrinkles so I like to think this, along with my SPF, are working together against the inevitable.

Lierac Liftissime Lifting Eye Serum (and Sunglasses): The skin around your eyes is extremely sensitive (especially during the drier months), so a regimen of daily eye serum is a practice you should pick up immediately and continue year-round. Add an extra layer of protection with a pair of cute sunnies.

Palmetto Derma Collagen Boosting Serum: Dehydrated skin is a common summer time complaint, and can lead to premature wrinkles and dullness. Restore your natural glow while fighting excess oil with this light-weight serum. Thin enough to wear under any moisturizer, this serum is packed with vitamins to promote healthy skin. .

Maybelline Colossal Chaotic Lash Mascara: This mascara has a really cool curved brush that separates the lashes and coats them in a rich, dark formula. Best part; it’s smug proof yet easy to wash off – no thinning eyelashes here!
