One of my top holiday party hairstyles is actually one of my favorite hairstyles, period. I love, love, love a low bun for a number of reasons: it’s super simple and allows your makeup and outfit to really shine, it looks great on pretty much everyone, and it’s beyond easy to do! I wore one for the Emmys this fall styled by Tommy Cyr, and countless times since. After reading this simple step-by-step guide, I’m sure you’ll be wearing it too.
Step 1: Blow dry your hair straight with a center part. Ensure your hair stays smooth with a bit of product; I love Tresemme’s Keratin Smooth Flat Iron Smoothing Spray.
Step 2: Prepare your ponytail by separating a small piece from the front on each side and leaving it out. Tie back the rest of your hair at the nape of your neck with a seamless hair elastic, and then pin back those front sections behind your ears with bobby pins. This keeps your face framing hair tidy.
Step 3: Curl sections of hair in your ponytail to make them easier to wrap into a bun. The goal of this is to add polish to the hair, not volume!
Step 4: Twist your pony into a bun and secure with bobby pins.
Step 5: For extra shine (so pretty with this ‘do), spritz a shine spray like Tresemme’s Climate Control Finishing Spray. You’re set!
