Our Second Honeymoon In Hawaii

Mackenzie and I recently visited beautiful for Hawaii for what we’ve been joking was our actual honeymoon. If you’ve been following along on our adventures, you probably saw our brief escape to Positano immediately following our wedding. What most people didn’t know was that we were only able to take a few days off in Italy before we had to rush back to the States for an important work obligation.

To make up for it, I scheduled us a little romantic getaway to Oahu, Hawaii – where we had no major plans other than to spend time relaxing together. We stayed at the breathtaking Four Seasons Oahu at Ko Olina, and if you’re looking for somewhere to go on your own honeymoon I couldn’t recommend it more. Unfortunately Mackenzie was feeling a little under the weather, so we took the opportunity to catch up on some sleep, lay by the pool, read our books and watch the sunset each night. It was just perfect.

Mackenzie had never visited Hawaii before, so I couldn’t wait to see his reaction when we were presented with fresh flower lei’s upon arrival. The hotel has ‘Mai Tai’ hour – where a chap mixes up complimentary Mai Tai’s by the pool – and we made it just in time. The next morning we learned so much more about the history of the islands, and how few full Hawaiians are actually left in existence, whilst canoeing along the shore with our guide. The views of the mountains and the waves were epic.

Next, settling in for a bit of pool time, I made my own flower crown (Lei Po’o, in Hawaiian) using local wild flowers, and which I was so proud of! Check out my insta for the funny Boomerang of Mackenzie and I wearing them. Thank you @Ocean_Dreamerr_ (pls check this address) for making my Moana moment come true!

Another cultural–slash–fashion moment was making my own earrings from the tiniest little shells you’ve ever seen. The shells can only be collected from a specific, uninhabited island nearby, where the practice of shell weaving has taken place for thousands of years.

And I have to talk about the food guys… the breakfast buffet was dangerous. I mean, the biggest, freshest array of foods from around the world, Mackenzie nearly had a heart attack deciding what to eat (um…everything) but it was truly a honeymoon because we stuffed ourselves full of pancakes, eggs, this delicious quinoa and berry compote, pastries and juice! In the evening, we would watch the sunset go down over the beach, before heading to the Fish House for dinner. Gin and tonics with a seafood tower – I was in heaven.

Having been to Hawaii before, it still blows me away each visit, with its charm. Hawaii’s people are warm, gentle, full of welcoming smiles. Every island has such a different vibe; such a strong sense of culture and is steeped in historical tales. I can’t wait to return to learn more.
