“Hi Louise, what’s one of your favorite trends for this summer, and how do you suggest styling it? Thanks!” – Isabella
I went to Spain four times last year, to have my wedding dress made. I already had a love for the country and its culture, but I came back with an even bigger obsession – for its fashion. My absolute favorite trend of the moment is Spanish style. Bright and bold prints, tassels, fringe trims, full skirts, and pom poms are all fun little touches of what I consider to be a very modern Latina look. We saw a lot of it on the runways recently, so it will definitely transform and continue throughout this summer and fall. I love the girly feel of this trend, but also the fact that it can be easily edged up when styled with leather accessories, like a jacket or studded handbag.
To style a Spanish look, pick a bold dress that has lots of movement as the foundation for your outfit. On a recent trip to Santa Barbara for Mackenzie’s birthday, the evenings were nice and warm so I went for a little shoulder-baring number to date night. The bright red print and flowy pleats of the dress are very salsa-esque, totally perfect for swishing around. To really amp up the flirty Latin vibes, go for slicked back hair and big earrings (tassel earrings are a super cute and on-trend option too!). Just imagine female salsa dancers with their super slick buns and full skirts – it’s all about the look and the way it moves, and less about the hair and makeup.
I’m loving pom poms and tassels on everything at the moment, and a fun way to finish off your look is with a pair of shoes that is embellished with either. There are tons of cute pom pom shoes out there right now, both with heel and flat sandal options. Just add a nice glowy tan and pink pouty lips, and you’re ready for to dance your way straight to a Mediterranean vacation!
