This is the room that is probably the most similar to the old house- we loved it so much so we wanted to replicate it in London but with some tweaks.
The carpet is super soft by Alternative Flooring- it’s their Wool Pebble in Omaha. Wool is so lovely as it has that slight soft bounce to it; is warming in the winter and the colour we chose goes with everything so we have it all over the house. I’ve just got to be careful with my red wine!
The curtains came from the old house as I definitely didn’t want to part with them, and my curtain lady cleverly elongated them. I bought extra fabric from Penny Morrison (it’s called Vine Flower) and she added a seam that is pretty much invisible. It’s a misconception that you can’t make curtains longer- just add some of the same material and you can make them work in a different space. It’s not easy but the curtain maker made it happen! I think it’s so clever.
The paint is the same as in our bedroom before- Lichen by Farrow & Ball– and it’s a perfect green as it’s really warm and pairs very well with my antiques! The bed is from Soho Home and the bedding is from my favourite Sarah K Designs; we went for the Ditsy Print in Ruby. It’s the sweetest little print without being overwhelming, 100% cotton and has tie fastenings instead of poppers which I love. The white square pillows are the trusty White Company.
I always like to dress up bedside tables (although they don’t stay pretty for long!) so we’ve got a little lamp and shade from Pooky on Mackenzie’s side and on mine, a hand painted night lamp with a scalloped shade that are both from Ebay. These were both new to our bedroom and I quite like that they don’t match. The little baskets are from Rebecca Udall, Mackenzie has coins in his and I have earrings in mine! I’ve also got the Pomander Dyptique candle which I adore.
One thing I did love in our bedroom in the old house was my little antique chair that we used as a mini table. I’ve put a couple of design books on it, including ‘La Dolce Vita’ full of incredible Slim Aarons photography. The tallboy which you might remember from Honor’s room fits perfectly into an alcove next to fireplace…I love it when that happens and on top of it I’ve put a china lamp base from Ebay under a cream lamp shade with red piping by Alice Palmer. We’ve got lots of her lampshades in the house, they’re gorgeous.
I’ve kept the fireplace itself quite simple- two Tamegroute candlesticks from Birdie Fortescue with marbled candles from Violet Rose Living. I LOVE these candlesticks; Tamegroute is a small village on the Saharan side of Morocco and they’re famous for this beautiful green pottery. I think it’s the perfect shade for the room as it pairs so well with the Farrow & Ball paint.
There’s a really lovely sunny corner in the other end of the room under a window and I found a wonderful OKA armchair to go in it, with a ruffle cushion from Westcot House. It’s hopefully going to be one of my cosy little reading corners. On the table is one of my most favourite home pieces EVER- a glazed terracotta lamp by Alice Palmer with a wavy beige lampshade from the Munro and Kerr x A Considered Space collaboration! I’m completely in love with it.
And that’s the main bedroom. The art is a work in progress and I can’t wait to have a bit of fun with it but for now it’s a perfect semi replica of our much-loved countryside bedroom, just a little more suited to London living. Which room would you like to see next?
