Coming straight off the pages of a Jane Austen novel, it’s been centuries since the square neckline has been on the style radar…literally. Recently I’m seeing it pop up everywhere and I’m absolutely loving that I get to style it into my Spring/Summer wardrobe. This neckline really is everywhere at the moment.
So, how do I make this trend less 1820 and more 2020? It’s all in the details. The neckline is daring in its own right, alluding to the ultra-cleavage of a corset without the painful boning. Serving as an extension of the classic camisole, it subtly showcases the shoulders and décolletage while still giving hints of femininity.
From puff sleeves (another big trend at the moment) to spaghetti straps, I cannot get enough of this gorgeous silhouette. I tend to pair it with solid pieces like jeans, further emphasising the delicate shape. Everyone knows I’m a huge fan of statement accessories, so I love to add some big earrings in to finish off the look. I hope square necklines stick around for a bit because I definitely have no problem dressing like a modern-day Lizzie Bennet. Scroll down to browse some of my favourite pieces with this darling neckline. Let me know how you style this new trend?
What I’m Wearing: Earrings by Rebecca de Ravenel (pink here and yellow here), Top by Sézane (similar here and here), Trousers by Marks and Spencer, Shoes by Sézane (similar here), Bag by Usisi
