Learn To Love Mondays With These 5 Tips

Maybe I’m a freak of nature, but Mondays happen to be one of my favorite days of the week. I’m a morning person, so I feel really motivated by getting up early and starting fresh after the weekend. I’m a workaholic, so although I do try to force myself to rest a bit over the weekend I’m always ready to jump back into work on Monday mornings. However – I know most people (including my husband) aren’t always so jazzed about Mondays, so I thought I’d share some of my secrets for learning how to love, and make the most of, this day of the week. Read below for my tips on how to start your week right!

Start preparing early.
Really early, like, the day before. Part of the reason that Mondays can feel like a hectic mess is that we often put off thinking about them until they have arrived. Making small changes to your routine by planning for the coming week on the weekend you can put yourself in a better position for when Monday comes around. You might want to plan your outfit out, prepare your breakfast or lunch, or pack a sports bag so that you actually make it to the gym. Whatever you can tick of your Monday morning to-do list is going to make a difference to how you feel about it.

Wake up early.
If you’re a morning person, then also get up early too. Giving yourself even an extra half hour on a Monday morning means that you’ll have more time to prepare yourself, not only for the day but the week ahead and won’t be feeling so rushed. Plus, you might be amazed at how much more you can squeeze into the day thanks to those few extra moments in the morning!

Get your shut eye over the weekend.
Lots of people make the mistake of staying up late on Friday and Saturday nights and then try to go to bed at their usual time on a Sunday. This messes up your body clock because after two nights of pushing back the time you go to sleep your body adapts to the shift and expects the same pattern again on the Sunday – meaning that your sleep on Sunday won’t be as good and you’ll end up feeling groggy and tired Monday. Not the best way to start your week, but a mistake that lots of people make. So, if you want to have that lie in and get your beauty sleep, go for it, just try not to go to bed too much later than you usually do on both nights.

Watch what you eat and drink.
This goes hand in hand with your sleeping well. If you eat and drink well, you’ll be much more likely to sleep well. Sure, go ahead and have your couple of glasses of wine, but just be aware that anymore than this will probably effect your sleep and how you feel the next day. Alcohol is bit of a double-blow when it comes to affecting how you feel because often the sugar content in what we drink reeks just as much havoc with your body and sleep. If you’ve hit the drinks, and the sugary and processed hangover food you’re body is definitely going to feel it come Monday. To combat this, try eating fewer processed foods and munch on natural sugars instead, if that’s what you’re needing. And come Monday morning start your day with warm water with lemon to alkalize your digestive system and help flush out any left over toxins.

Have something to look forward to.
Last but not least, the attitude with which you approach Mondays has the ability to change your whole week. Try scheduling in a treat or something you’ll enjoy doing so that you have something to make you look forward to it when Monday is looming, it can be something as small as buying yourself your favorite flowers on the way home from work, or having a coffee with an old friend. Alternatively, you could set yourself a goal for the day – if you know what you want to achieve during the day and be mindful of those intentions then you can finish the day having succeeded in at least one thing. If you can’t do either of these things, then at try to change your perspective or focus onto the positives that already surround your Monday, rather than the negatives.

I really hope that you’re able to find some use in these little nuggets of advice, let me know your favorite ways to get in the right state of mind for enjoying Mondays too.
