Pretty In Pink: Girls Night In

Once a month or so, I like to invite my best girlfriends over for a night of movies, beauty, and snacks (and wine!) – a grown up sleep-over or girls night in if you will. It’s a great way to save a bit of money, ditch the heels, and bond without distractions. My friends absolutely love it and we alternate hosting so each of us can feel like a party-planner from time to time. Toss on your pj’s, pop some popcorn, pour a few glasses of wine and get ready for a night of laughs (maybe some tears), mani’s, and sweets – memories from a girls night in last a lifetime. Here are a few of my essentials tips for planning the best girls night in around:

1. Movie Marathon: Put together a list of favorite movies to marathon watch. Classics, romantic comedies, and girl power films are always a hit. Think Breakfast at Tiffany’s, When Harry Met Sally, Love Story, The Big Chill, and Mean Girls.

2. DIY Beauty:Face masks and manis are a must – try making your own mask (check out my book Front Roe for a great recipe!) or check out my favorites here. Try new colors on your nails, right now i’m obsessed with the blush pink by Essie, called Eternal Optimist.

3. Snacks:This is a time to indulge in all the treats you want. I love the combination of salty and sweet, try making this adorable pink popcorn. It’s super simple (if a little sticky!) to make, and is guaranteed to be a smash hit with your girlfriends.

Ingredients

1 bag popcorn (salted is fine, but avoid other flavors)
⅔ cup half and half
1 Tbsp white corn syrup
¼ tsp salt
2 cups sugar
1 tsp vanilla
pink food coloring

Step 1: Mix the milk, corn syrup, salt and sugar together in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, and stir consistently until the sugar is completely dissolved.

Step 2: Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and a few drops of food coloring. The more you add, the darker your pink.

Step 3: Pour your popcorn into a large bowl, and then pour the mixture evenly over popcorn and stir until its evenly coated. Spread your pink popcorn evenly on aluminum foil to dry. This could take a few hours, so go it well before you pop the chick flicks in the DVD player!
