Quite a few of you have asked about my fitness habits recently, and it got me thinking about what motivates me to stay healthy and active. I like to switch up my routine so no two days are ever the same. I alternate between spinning class at Soul Cycle, circuits at Barry’s Bootcamp and Training Mate, and reformer pliates. When I’m traveling, a hotel gym or run on the beach is enough! So back to my motivation. Well, health and summer bikinis are two top reasons, but I have to confess that cute workout wear is also a factor in getting me to the gym! Today’s activewear is playful, detailed, colorful, and super flattering. I’ve been loving pieces from Splits 59, Lorna Jane, and New Balance. It’s a very ‘LA’ trend to wear workout clothes to run errands and meet people for coffee (long before or after you’re actually sweating it out), and in these fun pieces, I kind of like the idea. Check out my top picks hitting the athleisure trend head on.
Being active isn’t just about looking cute; a 2012 study found that by age 14 girls are dropping out of sports at two times the rate of boys – because of self esteem and body image problems. That makes me really sad, because exercise is one of the biggest stress busters, and one of the most fun activities I do. I need it for mental clarity and time to switch off, just as much as the physical side. That’s why I’m so excited to share with you This Girl Can – an empowering UK initiative to get women moving and sweating no matter how well they do, how they look, or what level they start at (check out the video for some serious motivation). Find a new class with a friend (i just tried the Barre, which was awesome), join a gym, or simply start taking the stairs – lets get physical ladies!
