My Favorite Festive Piece For Winter: Statement Military Coat

Sometimes, festive and chic can be mutually exclusive. Often when one thinks about festive holiday-wear, it’s hard not to picture a tacky Christmas sweater or a pair of red and green flannel pajamas. Especially here in the States, where it’s actually a funny party theme to wear the ugliest Christmas sweater that you can possibly find at your local thrift store. Luckily, there are some seriously chic options to wear to your holiday parties this year that don’t involve lumpy, itchy sweaters. I came across this amazing military coat designed for Banana Republic by Olivia Palermo, which screams the holidays and Winter season – while still being totally chic and elegant. I’m wearing this look tonight for Christmas Eve, but this coat will be so stylish all through Winter.

I am obsessed with the bright red hue, the elegant gold details, and the wool blend that makes it cozy, but breathable. As the coat is the statement piece, I am wearing a simple cream top and black jeans. The raw denim hem contrasts the classic military coat in a modern, dressed-down way. I love the way leopard print looks with a bold color, and the tiny red addition on my shoes help to bring it all together. Statement military coats are a major trend this winter, and they make getting dressed so much easier. If you have a chic coat, all you need to do is throw it on and go!

My styling tip? Keep the accessories to a minimum when playing with bold pieces. I chose one simple (and gorgeous) piece of jewelry to complete my look. Try this coat (or similar ones that I’ve linked below). Happy Christmas, everyone!
