At heart, I think I was meant to have been a 70’s girl. So many of my ultimate style icons are those who were the fashion ‘it’ girls of that time – from Stevie Nicks, to Ali McGraw and Bianca Jagger. But for me, Farrah Fawcett is the one – the definition of 70’s LA and the queen of high-waisted denim flares. I’ve clearly been channeling my inner Farrah with this look, which felt so appropriate for wearing by the beach (I was only missing roller skates!). For this retro California girl look, I’ve paired my favorite denim flares with a very retro looking crop top, in a summer shade that goes perfectly with the camel/tan leather accessories I wore. There’s something about this color of leather that is so reminiscent of that time period, and the gold studs and accents on this purse and shoes are just so me!
My take-away tip from this look? High-waisted jeans are universally flattering, and by pairing them with a top that finishes right on your waist (or even tucks into the bottoms), you create a line which draws the eye to what is usually the smallest part of your torso. It’s a styling tip that many bloggers and even stylists in the industry use to elongate and slim down any body type. At the moment, denim flares are my favorite jean silhouette, and I love the fact that they’ve made such a strong comeback.

Just a fit note. I am extremely short waisted- the bottom of my rib cage and top of my hip bone essentially touch. Anything higher than a 9″ inseam is on my rib cage and not my waist. Also, at 5’2″ and a D sized chest, I look like my torso is all boobs. So, not at all flattering! I do enjoy this look on others that have accommodating proportions, like yourself.
