Early on in your career, success can seem like it’s eons away. When you’re shlepping bags of clothes across town, steaming racks on racks of clothes, and working odd hours that prevent you from sleeping (let alone having a personal life!), you can start to question why you chose the fashion industry in the first place. I know sometimes it doesn’t feel worth it, but hard work will always pay off, regardless of what path you choose as your career. Someone will notice, and it will always come back round to you in ways you might not expect.
I can remember my first ever job, right after college, at Elle magazine. I was an intern, unpaid, so I surfed friend’s couches and fed myself on party canapes when I’d report for the magazine, in order to afford it. We called it a Champagne lifestyle on a water budget! I had the monotonous, boring jobs or photocopying and getting coffee, but I was so pumped just to be walking into the office every day, I found even the basic stuff exciting. It’s important to keep smiling and show effort – getting in early and staying late, soaking up any advice you might get by the water machine or in the hallway. Those are the moments when senior editors might notice you. And that’s exactly what happened to me. One day, about 5 months after I started, an editor called me over. She told me to get my notebook, because she was sending me backstage to a show at London Fashion Week. It was the most exciting moment of my life at that point! My first interview ended up being super-of-all-supermodels Linda Evangelista! I couldn’t believe it. All the hard work had paid off, this was my first break!

Today, I went to the beach front with my kids. Today, I went to the beach front with my children. The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
