Black and white is a timeless combination. From Julia Roberts’ Oscar-winning Valentino gown, to Annie Hall’s androgynous suits, black and white basics will never date. Another classic fashion piece, is the pencil skirt. I wanted to try and style black and white in a different, modern way, using a pencil skirt – with a twist!
The origami bow-belt spices up the basic black skirt in a whole new way. Not only is it a modern silhouette, but it has the added advantage of making your waist look slimmer. Go for a high waisted cut and make sure your top meets exactly on, or just above the waist (otherwise tuck your top in). You don’t want your blouse or top to sit on top of the bow, or it will add bulk. Heels are a must with a high waisted pencil, they give that ladylike edge and also streamline and slim your overall silhouette. Go for closed top pumps if it’s work, and sexy open toe sandals if it’s play. I loved putting together this look, it felt clean, minimal, but still glamorous.
