I often opt to emphasize my eyes, but I adore lippies of every kind! I’ve learned a few things from the makeup artists and beauty pros I work with, and I’m excited to share some of my favorite products and must-know tips with you.
Starting off with a clean slate allows your lip look to go on smoothly. I’d read about lip scrubs in magazines but only started using them recently, and let me tell you, it makes a world of difference! I use Mary Kay’s Satin Lips Lip Mask when I shower, and it leaves my lips so soft. Applying a little lip balm moistens them, creating the perfect blank beauty canvas.
Now, I know lip liners have gotten a bad rap, but used correctly, they’re genius. A soft and creamy pencil defines your lips, creates a foundation for lip color and (my favorite quality!) creates a plump shape. I don’t know what I’d do without Lancome Lip Pencil in Beige Rose, which I use to pencil the underside of my bottom lip and the top line of my upper lip.
I determine my lipstick application method based on my chosen shade. For a casual stain, I use my finger, for dark or bright shades (like my favorite MAC Morange) that need a defined lip, I opt for a lip brush. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with applying it straight out of the tube! I apply, blot and reapply for color that lasts, and to avoid that getting my lipstick on my teeth, I use Marilyn Monroe’s trick of sucking on your finger (yes, really) and and dabbing a tiny drop of Vaseline on your teeth to create a sheen.
